Description
Amlavetas (botanically known as Garcinia pedunculata) is a significant sour herb in Ayurveda, often compared to Kokum or Tamarind but with more specialized therapeutic uses. It is native to Northeast India (where it is called Thekera) and is highly regarded for its ability to clear the digestive and respiratory channels.
The dosage for Amlavetas (Garcinia pedunculata) depends on the form you are using and the specific health goal. Because it is highly acidic and has a “hot” potency, staying within these traditional guidelines is important.
Powder Form (Churna)
Adult Dosage: 1 to 3 grams.
How to take: Usually taken twice a day after meals.
Carrier (Anupana): Mix with warm water or a small amount of honey to balance the extreme sourness.
Important Precautions
Hyperacidity: If you suffer from active stomach ulcers, gastritis, or frequent heartburn (high Pitta), avoid Amlavetas as its high acid content may worsen these conditions.
Pregnancy: Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner before use. While culinary amounts are generally safe, medicinal dosages should be monitored.
Avoid Overuse: Excessive consumption can lead to tooth sensitivity (due to the acid) or a burning sensation during urination.
