Description
In Ayurveda, Dadam Chhaal (Pomegranate Peel) is highly valued as a powerful astringent (Kashaya-tikta) herb. It is recognized in classical texts like Charaka Samhita and Bhava Prakasha for its ability to balance Pitta and Kapha doshas.
Uses:
1. Digestive Health
Anti-Diarrheal & Astringent: Because of its high tannin content, it acts as a Grahi (absorptive) agent, making it an effective traditional remedy for diarrhea, dysentery, and loose motions.
Appetizer & Digestive: It is classified as Deepana (appetizer) and Pachana (digestive), helping to improve gut health and balance digestive fire.
2. Oral & Dental Care
Anti-inflammatory: It is a traditional staple for oral health. Powdered peel is often used as a tooth powder or in mouth rinses to treat gum inflammation, bleeding gums, mouth ulcers, and to prevent plaque buildup.
3. Skin & Beauty
Anti-Acne & Pigmentation: Due to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, it is commonly used in face packs. It helps treat acne, reduces hyperpigmentation (dark spots), and aids in skin detoxification.
Wound Healing: Applied as a paste, it promotes the healing of cuts, rashes, and minor skin wounds.
4. Respiratory Support
Sore Throat & Cough: Traditionally, a decoction made from boiled peel or gargling with powdered peel mixed in water is used to soothe sore throats, reduce phlegm, and alleviate persistent coughs.
