In Ayurveda, Chitrakmool (the root of the Plumbago zeylanica plant) is highly revered as one of the most potent digestive and metabolic stimulants. Because of its intense heat and sharp qualities, it is often referred to as “Agni” (fire) in Sanskrit.

Digestive Power (Deepana-Pachana): It is the gold standard for treating Agnimandya (low digestive fire). It stimulates appetite, promotes gastric juice secretion, and helps “scrape away” (Lekhaniya) toxins known as Ama from the digestive tract.

Metabolic & Weight Management: It is widely used in formulations for obesity because it boosts metabolism and helps mobilize stored fat.

Piles & Constipation: Due to its mild laxative (Rechana) property, it helps alleviate constipation-related issues and reduces the pain and swelling associated with piles.

Respiratory Health: It helps thin and expel stubborn phlegm from the chest, making it useful for chronic cough and bronchitis.

Joint & Skin Care: When applied as a paste, it has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, helping to treat joint pain, acne, and skin infections.

Not for Self-Medication: Due to its Ushna Virya (hot potency), it should generally be used in formulations (like Chitrakadi Vati or Chitrak Haritaki) rather than as a standalone raw ingredient at home, unless advised by a Vaidya.
