Description
In Ayurveda, it is recognized as one of the single most powerful herbs for managing upper respiratory disorders, chronic allergies, and deep-seated Kapha accumulations.
Bharangmool has a bitter (Tikta) and pungent (Katu) taste, combined with a heating potency (Ushna Virya). This makes it exceptionally effective at cutting through thick, stubborn mucus and balancing Vata and Kapha doshas.
Asthma & Bronchitis Support: It acts as a natural bronchodilator. It helps relax the smooth muscles of the respiratory tract, making breathing much easier during acute asthma attacks, bronchitis, or chronic wheezing.
Allergic Rhinitis & Chronic Sinusitis: Due to its natural anti-inflammatory and antihistamine-like properties, a decoction of the root helps reduce continuous sneezing, running nose, and sinus congestion caused by pollen or dust allergies.
Breaking Fevers: It is traditionally classified as a Jwarahara (fever-remover). It is highly effective in managing chronic, recurring fevers or fevers accompanied by heavy chest congestion and shivering.
Reducing Subcutaneous Swelling: Because it stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, a paste made from the roots can be applied externally to reduce painful joint swellings or localized inflammatory lumps.
Common Traditional Uses
Bharangi Churna (Powder): The dried root is pulverized into a fine powder. A typical dosage of 1 to 3 grams is consumed twice daily with lukewarm water or honey after food.
Kanthakari Avaleha / Bharangi Guda: It is a principal ingredient in several classical Ayurvedic herbal jams and syrups designed specifically to soothe chronic coughs and shield lung health.
